Enderun’s Solution Is Less Pollution

The environment includes all of the world’s lovely things: colors, flora, and fauna. It is the yellow flowers that remind you of your mother’s warm touch or when you squint your eyes searching for the sun. It is the rare blue butterfly that reminds you of the sensation of your body being submerged by the dark blue ocean or the cold flash of a snowflake melting on your tongue. It is the green of the trees that provide you with the fresh wind to keep you cool during hot days or the vibrant garden your tita enjoys tending. It’s a magical place because it’s so alive, yet it may perish in the blink of an eye.

The environment can be thought of as a blanket that covers the planet to protect all life forms. It also consists of elements such as plants and animals, air, water, sunlight. But according to UN experts, global warming is expected to intensify and if we continue to destroy it, future generations may never enjoy the beauties of nature, such as hearing bees buzzing around, smelling fresh flowers, tasting clean and fresh spring water, or seeing the lake act as a mirror.

The human species has done a great deal of damage to the planet throughout history. Among other things, our world has been burdened by pollution, industrial misuse, and many other problems. By taking essential steps, we have a responsibility to protect the environment for future generations.

Undergraduate courses in Sustainable Management are becoming extremely relevant, especially at Enderun Colleges. The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a Sustainability Management Major (BSBA-SM) was introduced in 2016. A bright future awaits those student leaders who have finished Enderun’s BSBA-SM course. They are exposed to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are a group of 17 goals that all UN states must accomplish by 2030. Global cooperation for sustainable development is required to attain the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Furthermore, BSBA-Sustainable Management graduates will have more opportunities in the real world with this course.

In the last few years, we have seen a series of unfortunate events in the world that have made sustainability more vital than ever. Environmental catastrophes caused by human activities, such as severe wildfires and deforestation, have made everyone aware that we must take responsibility for our planet. Enderun Colleges’ evolving BSBA-SM program is the only undergraduate course in the Philippines that focuses on environmental sustainability management. Professors like Arch. Lorena Jauregui and Dr. Alma Madrazo can help future graduates make ethical environmental decisions. This program aids students to focus on the roots of environmental concerns and business as it is closely linked to how we operate as a society. Sustainability Management majors and scholars Alexcia Annalisa Anusevicius and Allyza Joy Umali recently sat down with the two esteemed professors to learn more about sustainability and the environment.

As global citizens on a planet that needs immediate help, what can we Titans do for the environment?

  1. Raise your voice, not pollution!

During the interview, Arch. Jauregi emphasized that sustainability is extremely dynamic and one must learn to learn continuously. We must speak up and educate.
It has been about five years since the SDGs were established, yet only around 45 percent of people have heard of them and think they understand what they mean. However, many people do not know what they can do to help accomplish the SDGs. Humans have a fundamental responsibility to protect and promote the world’s sustainable development for the benefit of future generations. Understanding the environmental consequences of our actions has never been more significant, and enhancing our awareness of the environment needs us to repair some of the harm already done by human activity. We must continue to research and find solutions to this problem.

  2. Choose sustainability

“By making the choice to adopt a green lifestyle, each individual on the planet can make a small difference and help to leave a more hospitable world for future generations.” – Dr. Alma Madrazo

The environment may be green, but it is up to us to keep it clean. If we don’t make more sustainable decisions, we won’t be able to preserve the environment. There’s a good chance that our world might be irreversibly harmed if our damaging activities are not stopped now. Sustainable development strategies support countries in responding to the difficulties brought by climate change. As a result, it can aid in the preservation of vital natural resources for current and future generations. Overall, environmental sustainability is critical to both our society, planet and our well-being.

  3. Limit animal products

The simplest approach to becoming eco-friendly is to decrease your use of animal products. According to Oxford University, lessening the usage of animal products from your lifestyle can lower your carbon footprint by up to 73%. Organic farming decreases the consumption of non-renewable energy by reducing the need for agrochemicals. Using organic agriculture can reduce greenhouse gases and global warming as it is a way to store carbon in the soil. In a United Nations assessment from 2010, animal products utilize more energy and emit more greenhouse gases than plant-based alternatives.

  4. “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”

There is a major struggle on our planet because of the consumption of single-use plastic bags, and plastic packaging. We should start bringing our eco-friendly shopping bags to the store as it lowers our environmental impact. Say farewell to disposable water bottles and coffee cups too! Investing in high-quality, non-plastic bottles is a fantastic approach to stay sustainable.

Do you own a small business that utilizes the use of plastic?

If yes, then doing your contribution in reducing the quantity of plastic trash your business generates is a great way to contribute to the SDG.

  5. Support Eco-Friendly Local Businesses

Local businesses that are environmentally conscious save money, are more productive and serve as role models. If you buy from small businesses, you are also benefiting the local community. Local businesses have a lesser carbon footprint than larger corporations. Many local companies make an effort to donate to charity, which helps local organizations.

Taking small steps every day to help save the environment can make a huge difference. We must not forget that Earth day is every day. Enderun’s professors are setting an example for future generations by choosing to live a sustainable lifestyle. We must treat the Earth with a heart so the world doesn’t fall apart!
