How to Revive the Christmas Spirit

During Christmas, there must be at least one four-year-old kid somewhere in the world who refuses to go to bed and patiently awaits the arrival of Santa Claus. With youth comes the magical wonder of Christmas. However, as we grow up, the festive season soon begins to feel very mundane. And when we are in the middle of a pandemic, there is even a possibility that we dread it.

Christmas during a pandemic may feel incomplete because of many reasons. Perhaps you are away from your family or the people you want to spend time with the most. Perhaps you are physically or mentally exhausted. Perhaps you feel pressured to meet the celebration expectations. Perhaps you simply wish not to celebrate the holidays.

You may also wish to experience that magical feeling again but have no idea how to do so. You may want to smile at the sight of Christmas trees and their ornaments. Perhaps you want to sing and dance along with the season favorite All I want for Christmas is You or simply vibe with Santa Tell Me with genuine excitement. If that’s you, here are some things you can do:

  1. Be a Santa

Christmas is known for being the season of giving. One way to feel the Christmas spirit is to be someone’s Santa Claus. Give the people you love, or even strangers, a present. May it be food, service, a material gift, or your time, they will surely appreciate it.

  2. Treat Yourself

Like the first tip, this one still involves giving. But this time, the present is for yourself. To feel the spirit of Christmas, treat yourself to your favorite restaurant or spa. Buy yourself something. Sign up for classes you know you would enjoy or would be helpful to you in the long run.

  3. Decorate Your House

Christmas decorations do not necessarily have to be extravagant to be recognized as such. A small Christmas tree would suffice as the main foundation of Christmas in your home. Wreaths, Christmas lights, or parols are other options you can consider.

  4. Watch Christmas Films

What better way to feel the Christmas spirit than by experiencing it through a screen? There are a bunch of Christmas films to choose from that would suit your mood. You could always just rewatch the classics, but there are more modern holiday-themed movies that you could still enjoy!

  5. Listen to a Christmas Playlist

Like Christmas movies, Christmas songs can get you in the mood too. Simply search for a Christmas playlist that you like, or better yet, make your own. A personalized playlist is more special since you took the time to create it.

  6. No Pressure

If you find yourself still uninterested in the whole holiday season, then there is no pressure. You can treat the day however you like or even choose to celebrate on a completely different day when you are more up for it. Make sure to give yourself a break as well.

The most important thing about Christmas is that we remember the purpose of it. If it does not match your beliefs, make sure to still respect those who do. If you cannot feel the excitement other people do about the holidays, fret not. Just make sure you make the most out of it, too.
