A Bookworm’s Guide to Romance Novels

In the spirit of love, as a bookworm, I’ll be sharing my guide to romance novels that you’ll all enjoy reading during your free time or even as a reward for finishing your midterms. Some books were adapted to films while others are still being planned by future film directors and studios. Here are five books that you can read during this month of love.

  1. The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks

The first book on my list is written by one of my favorite authors. He is famous for writing romance novels such as “A Walk To Remember,” “The Lucky One,” and “Dear John”. The story unfolds an unforgettable tale about different forms of love (first love and parental love to children). Aside from that, this book revolves around Veronica “Ronni” Miller’s life that was turned upside down when her parents got divorced. Three years later, while she remained angry and alienated, her mom decided that it was time for them to visit their dad at his beach house. But little did she know that she would meet Will Blakelee. I recommend this book because it reminds me of young love and how it’s important to treasure our family relationships. I added this book to the list because Nicholas Sparks used to be my favorite romance author. Lastly, it fits the month of love because of Ronni and Will’s relationship. Although they had some downfalls, they truly loved each other.

  2. Love, Rosie by Cecilia Ahern

This is another book turned into a film, and written by the best-selling author of PS, I Love You. Love, Rosie is well-known to be an enchanting novel about what happens when two people who are meant to be together just can’t seem to get it right. Rosie and Alex are two best friends who’ve known each other since they were kids. This book reminds me of two best friends falling in love with each other after being in a relationship with two different people. I decided to add this book to the list because of how relatable this novel is to young lovers that end up together after realizing that they’re soulmates. Another reason why I chose to add this on the list is because of how it makes you feel butterflies for Rosie and Alex. It has some sad parts but the sweet parts they have with each other make up for it. Adding this book to my list just shows how much I love best friends-to-lovers stories. Knowing the book was set in the United Kingdom also gave me the chance of traveling through a book.

  3. The Selection Series by Kiera Cass

If you love reading books about royalty and finding love, this book series is for you. Although this wasn’t turned into a film or series yet, reading the books already made me feel like I was part of the story. This series consists of five books, “The Selection,” “The Elite,” “The One,” “The Heir,” and “The Crown,” and is set in the kingdom of Illea. I’m reading The Crown and I must say how intrigued I am by the story despite it having sad parts. The first three books revolved around America Singer and Maxon Schreave’s love story during the selection, which consisted of thirty-five young princesses that go on dates with the Prince in order to win his heart. The last two books were about Eadlyn Shreave going through the same process that her parents did, but would she be able to fall in love? I chose this book series because of how much I enjoyed reading it throughout the years. I also wanted other readers to read this book series because it talks about real love despite being a royalty. America and Maxon will always be my favorite couple because of their beautiful love story.

  4. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before Series by Jenny Han

We all know who Lara Jean Covey and Peter Kavinsky are based on the films that were produced by Netflix. Lara Jean Covey was played by Lana Condor whilst Peter Kavinsky was played by none other than Noah Centineo. The three books revolve around their high school lives and how their relationship grew during that time. In book one, Lara Jean’s secret box of love letters were mailed to her past crushes causing them to confront her about them. The second book is about Lara Jean and Peter Kavinsky falling in love with each other but things went downhill because of a past crush and doubts. Lastly, the final book is about their senior year and Lara Jean figuring out her final plans because of unexpected news. When your heart and mind choose different things, which one should you listen to? In case you didn’t like the films, reading these books will give you a new perspective on every character, and why the ending was that way. Reading the books will also make you realize what they changed and added to the films. I added this book to the list because of how popular it became when Netflix dropped these films. Lastly, this book definitely fits the month of love perfectly because of Lara Jean and Peter Kavinsky’s relationship. If you’re looking for a book about high school lovers, young love and crushes, I highly suggest reading this trilogy first before watching the films. That way you can discover the similarities and differences.

  5. Beach Read by Emily Henry

If you’re an active TikTok app user like me, then you must’ve seen this book on your “For You” page. What happens when you fall in love with your opposite? Will it work out? Or will it burn down in flames? This book is about a romance writer who no longer believes in love and a literary writer that is stuck in a rut. Augustus Everett is an acclaimed author of literary fiction whilst January Andrews writes bestselling romance novels. Sadly, the only thing they have in common is they’ll be living in their beach houses, broke and unmotivated with writer’s block, until one hazy evening. What happens when they strike a deal designed to force them out of their creative ruts? This story will definitely make you smile or cry. I chose this book because of the reviews that other bookworms wrote on Goodreads. Adding this book to the list has truly made me learn how much I’ve changed as a reader. Lastly, this book fits the month of love because of how their love story blossomed into something beautiful despite their differences.

These are five books that I recommend reading during the month of love. I hope you’ll enjoy reading these. Sharing book recommendations have always been fun to make and I hope to make more in the future.
