Culinary Corner

One of the best things that Enderun offers its students is the number of opportunities that internships open for them. Enderun’s industry partners are some of the best hotels and businesses in the industry. Zarah Dagaman chats with Chef See Cheong Yan, Head of the Corporate Culinary department for updates on the industry.
The Hotel and Culinary Administration colleges have over a hundred industry partners. Its students are very privileged to have this opportunity. Not many schools can offer such a wide variety of companies and places in their internships.

For this school year, Chef See travelled to Malaysia to acquire new industry partners. The Culinary Department together with the Career Services Department are building connections with hotels in Kuala Lumpur and in Guam. Inndustry partners benefit students by giving them great opportunities for training and harnessing their skills. Chef See tells us the importance of both internships, “The first is where students can grow, think about their career and gain maturity. It is a time when people often go through a transformation – to learn how to be alone and work with teams. It is where they learn how the
industry works and they learn how to become better. ”

Chef See states that the second internship; however, is very different from the first, “This acts as the students’ show window where they can promote themselves in their industry. They must impress those who can be their potential employers.” Their career may as well depend on this internship. Chef See emphasizes that students have to do well in both internships. He says when they are there, they don’t just represent themselves, but also the school.

There are three things that Chef See wants everyone to remember. First, internships are the time to find yourself, who you are. Second, it is a show window; your opportunity to show yourself to the industry. And third, think of the next batch of students. Your outcome depends on you; you can either make it or break it, so always keep in mind the standard that Enderun has set and ensure that you maintain such standard.
