Titans Week, Enderun’s official Athletics and Intramurals week can be looked at as a school success. Planned by the Enderun Student Government and made possible by its sponsors, Volkswagen BGC, Magic Chips, Toby’s Sports, Pepsi’s Gatorade, X.O. Candies, ACTS Dance & Arts Academy, Nissin Cup Noodles and Project Pie, the past five days have been nothing but an exhibition intense games, salubrious cheering and occasional jeering, as well as a showcase of athletic talents from men and women throughout the school  – students, faculty and employees alike.

Having started last August 26, the event began with a parade that consisted of the school’s basketball, futsal and pep squad varsity teams as well as the team players for the intramurals. From then, it was pretty much a quick blur of performances, speeches, then to what the event boiled down to – the games! Athletic action seen throughout the court, whistles piercing the air, as well as applauses and batch cheers exploding throughout the Titans Court were mere evidences of the heightened school spirit, leading to the event’s success.

This Titans Week, apart from the usual Basketball, Volleyball and Futsal, Dodge ball was also added to the sports line-up gaining quite a number of players and popularity within the school. Exhibition games were also held between the Employees and Student All-Stars for Basketball and Volleyball. Apart from the games, select school organizations also played an active role in making the attendees’ experiences even more enjoyable by providing sumptuous food, amazing performances, and lots of help (thanks to Culinaire, EPA, Lux Lucis, the Enderun Varsity Pep Squad, Cultura and First Edition). This event was definitely one of those memorable Enderun Moments.

Below are write-ups from students who were willing to share their Titans Week experiences:

Zheri de Vera, Junior – (BS IHM HA)

This Titans Week was a special one for me since it was the first time I participated in the games. I joined dodge ball, which was a new sport this intrams, which the organizers added to the lineup. Although I didn’t have much playing time during the games, I have no regrets of being a part of it. I’m glad to be a part of a team that was able to win the championship and for the better part, getting a jersey and winning a free pizza from Project Pie. Dodge ball was a fun and interesting sport – I do hope that there could be a wider variety of games in the future Titans Weeks, so I could try out new sports as well. The food stalls and freebies from all the sponsors were an added bonus to the fun of the event, plus the atmosphere of school spirit was great. I am proud to say that the juniors dominated this semester’s intrams and I can only hope that we would be able to keep up a winning streak. I am also so proud of every of everyone who participated and made Titans Week a success. With that I can honestly say that I am proud to be an ENDERUN TITAN!”

Malek Zarroug, Junior – (BSBA, Marketing)

Titans Week is perhaps the one thing to really look forward to in a semester, because it brings excitement to all students as well as a chance to get to know new people and make new friends from other batches. And if you haven’t played sports in a while, Titans Week will be the best opportunity to shine, because of its availability to all in Enderun. The entire experience was full of joy and laughter, especially since our batch got the Best Batch Award and other individual titles, which of course, made Titans Week a fantastic experience.”

Jess San Andres, Senior – (BS IHM CA)

Titans Week was a very organized event. I liked the fact that there were many sponsors as well. I salute the Enderun SG team for an amazing event. I commend them all for boosting the Enderun School Spirit!”

Jaira Tagle, Freshman – (BS IHM HA)

Titans Week was a great opportunity for the freshmen to be familiar with each other. It also gave us a chance to get to know the upper batch men. It encouraged batch unity – demonstrating teamwork within the players, cheering our lungs out to show support, and throwing our hearts out to the team, supporting them in their wins but also giving them comfort in their losses.”

Miguel Villanueva, Freshman – (BS IHM Entrep)

Titan’s week, a weeklong activity is aimed towards increasing team spirit, unity, and sportsmanship.  This event was composed of different batches facing off against each other in various sports in order to earn a trophy, a medal and “bragging rights” for that batch to hold on to for the rest of the semester.  Becoming a captain for the freshmen basketball team was both an honor and a hassle.  It was a hassle because of scheduling of practice mixing it with schoolwork made it difficult for my life.  But as soon as the first game was set, everything became such an honor.  Seeing my fellow teammates playing their best along with fellow batch mates cheering us on during the competition made it worth it.  Not playing that long in the games was no problem for me because of my team.  Although we didn’t become champions (yet we were really close at 2nd Place), it was just amazing to be playing basketball again.  It was an experience that I would never change for anything else.

THE CULMINATING DAY:

The last day was on August 30 – what a way to end the month – with sports and highs of school spirit. The Enderun Student Government had a full day planned and packed with a series of activities for all the students.

The day started off in Emperador Stadium where the E-Games were held. An hour for football and another for frisbee. Instead of the games being an inter-batch competition, the Seniors joined forces with the Freshmen to face off the Juniors allied with the Sophomores. With the sun relentlessly shining throughout the day, everyone’s thirst was quenched with bottles of Gatorade, while those watching on the stands were snacking on Magic Chips and X.O. candies – thanks to some of the sponsors. It was clear to see that everyone was just enjoying regardless the heat and even the scores of the games.

Back in campus, there were other sets of activities. Groups flocked to the dance studio for zumba and hip-hop classes, courtesy of Acts Dance & Arts Academy – one of the instructors was even a student of ours, Willis Turingan, the internal vice president of the Student Government.

Outside in the parking lot, a 3-Point Shoot-Out and a Slam Dunk Contest were being held. Followed by the highly anticipated Eating Contest made possible by two of Enderun’s Student Organizations Culinaire and EPA. In comparison to last year’s Hotdog Eating Contest, this one had leveled up to make things even more intense by having 2 elimination rounds starting with a Pie-Eating Contest, then a Nissin Cup Noodles Challenge, which lead to the final round of a Mixed-Medium Food Challenge consisting of a Bottle of Gatorade, a Bag of Magic Chips, and a few X.O. Chocolate Shake Candies. It was definitely a head-turning competition watching students try to devour all the food as quickly as they could.

And then, of course, the highly anticipated Basketball and Volleyball finals took place late afternoon at Titans Court. Being part of the audience, you could feel the intensity of the players and empathize with their drive to win the championship title.

In the end, the Juniors bagged 1st Place for both Basketball (versus the Freshmen) and Volleyball (versus the Seniors); they not only displayed athletic skill but camaraderie and teamwork as well.

Medals and trophies were awarded to the champions and 1st Runner-ups, but what got people even more excited were the pizza boxes handed out by Project Pie to all the winners and MVPs.

This pretty much sums up the Culminating Event of Titans Week. It makes one wonder what to expect next semester for the following Titans Week.

Champions for this semester’s Titans Week:
