Enderun student wins big at the first ever Spuds and Dairy Culinary Cup 2019

On September 6, 2019, Enderun Colleges student Ria Garcia won as champion in the Best U.S. Potato Dish Category during the Spuds and Dairy Culinary Cup 2019 held in the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall in Pasay.

The first ever Spuds and Dairy Culinary Cup 2019 is an exciting competition among teams of two – a professional chef and a top culinary student who will come up with their best potato and dairy dishes. Teams are provided with all the necessary tools and equipment but what makes it different is that team players need to shop for their own ingredients. Furthermore, a wide array of U.S. potato and California dairy products will be made available to all of them.

After receiving PhP100,000 in cash prize, Ria Garcia shared that, “Training for a competition like this wasn’t easy. We had to come up with two dishes for each of the five categories. It is an honor to represent Enderun Colleges in one of the hardest culinary competitions. It feels great to be recognized for something you worked really hard for with the help of my chef mentors and the support of the entire Enderun community. I hope this is an inspiration for culinary students to never stop training and to never stop challenging yourself.”

Garcia also won second place in the recent Young Talents Escoffier competition last May.

According to Enderun Colleges Culinary Head Chef Cheong Yan See, “More than all the intellectual and technical knowledge that we teach our students, we let them learn about important values such as hard work and collaboration. We are very proud of our Enderun students who train day in and day out to win these culinary competitions. We make sure that we fully support them to be the best that they can be in everything that they do, be it in a regular class or participating in activities outside the school.”
