Isn’t it fascinating to think that we now have the power to stop time? Well, this isn’t like some Professor X of X-Men fantasy, but rather, I am referring to photography. Photography is the ability to capture a specific moment locked in fragments of light. In this article, we’ll talk about our very own Titans and their captivation with photography.

ACE LEAL

First up we have Culinary Arts (CA) Senior, Ace Leal, who really doesn’t consider herself a “photographer” because she treats it as a side hobby. Ace enjoys the whole process of photography and that’s what keeps her doing it. She holds sentimental value in her photos and this stems from her tendency to hoard memories. Also, she’s fond of taking photos in film because of the excitement of not knowing what it will look like and seeing the moment she captures develop slowly. When asked about her thoughts while taking photos, Ace responds that she always wants it to be as raw as possible. For her, it’s like a visual relay, to share the exact moment that her eyes saw. In the relevance of photography in these times, she thinks that it’s a good outlet knowing people stay most of the time in their homes. The art of finding beauty in mundane things. “Making most of what one has and for a moment, escape from their routines,” she added. Check out Ace’s personal favorite shot below.

BLUE ZOLETA

Next, an Entrepreneurship sophomore and a rising star in photography, Blue Zoleta! Blue is captivated by how photography affects people. When his models get excited and happy because of his shots, he can see how the craft connects people. The whole process of conceptualizing, planning, executing, editing, and uploading outputs satisfy Blue as he makes sure that there’s appropriate lighting, subject, and clothes—as he works primarily with fashion brands and enterprises. He shares that photography is painting and manipulating light, which plays a crucial role in expressing the message of the photo. When Blue was asked about the relevance of photography to the status quo, his answer revolved around impact. The craft impacts a person one way or another. “[Photography] expands vision through expression,” he added. Indulge in symmetry with Blue’s personal favorite shot.

BUILDING

It’s amazing to think how our titans excel not only in their chosen specializations but wait, there’s more! Watch out for Part 2 of Locked in Light: Titans Capturing the World of Photography.
