World Week 2013

Every year Enderun marks one week of its calendar to celebrate the different cultures of the world. This year, the school went the extra mile by expanding the annual Asian Week to World Week. From January 29 – February 1, 2013, various events were staged to celebrate the mosaic of world cultures.

The event kicked off on Tuesday with booths showcasing novelty items from: China, Japan, Spain, Philippines, France and the USA. The Humanities classes of Ms. Marissa Felix, in association with Cultura, used their collective resources to jumpstart the ceremonies at the Atrium.

The following day saw the events move to the new Enderun Tent for a film viewing of Hua Mulan, a Spanish guitar serenade, a wine and cheese talk, taffy pulling exhibition, and Anyo filming exhibition.

On Thursday there was a Japanese hip-hop dance performance together with respective lessons, a Martial Arts demonstration, another Anyo film showing, a Tai Chi presentation called “quest for self,” and an inflatable sumo wrestling match won by: Paulo Jordan.

The events were capped off on Friday with a traditional Chinese dinner in honor of the Chinese New Year, otherwise known as the lunar new year.

She enjoys writing because of its cathartic nature and how it can be used to relay her thoughts, feelings and ideas. In her view, the idea that great works of art can be created by the effective use of words demonstrates its simplicity, potency and beauty.
