How Titans Spend Christmas
It’s that time of the year again to celebrate the loveliest and most joyous season—whether you’ll be spending it with your families, friends, or loved ones, at home or around the world. Imagine the ideal Christmas this 2021: The aroma of freshly baked pastries occupies the air, the Noche Buena feast, the Christmas tree sparkling with neatly arranged decorations, and the laughter you hear as your cousins enjoy their new gifts.
Enderun is a school of diversity, meaning that everyone’s customs, traditions, cultures, and practices are unique and special, so we asked Enderun Titans to answer a survey on how they spend their Christmas or their holiday season. We talked to 25 Enderun students and we used these statistics to conclude how Titans spend their Christmas.
It is no secret that we spend these festive seasons with the people we hold closest to our hearts, as represented by more than 94% of the Enderun Titans we talked to. It seems that these individuals celebrating Christmas look forward to recharging and socializing with their families and friends. Along with our friends and families, the Christmas season is meant to strengthen bonds, express gratitude and selflessness, and get ready for the upcoming year with the people we love.
Many people around the world look forward to Christmas, but not to the events leading to Christmas. In a time of the year where it is close to ending, aspects such as final exams, an extreme workload, or even packed rush hours show their prevalence. There is a small window where stress is pent up before releasing it back into the world through celebrations, which may be overwhelming and demanding. This time frame can be mentally and physically taxing, which is why around 62.5% of respondents look forward to relaxing and taking it easy during these free days.
The COVID-19 pandemic afflicted many families, especially around Christmas. Some families are unable to see one another because of restrictions and safety precautions; thus, the holiday may look different for many of us. Due to relatives living overseas and/or the pandemic, 18.8% reported calling their family and friends using apps like Zoom, Facetime, and Skype. Because of this, it’s worth saying that presence is far more precious than presents. The time we spend with our families and friends is truly priceless.
Along with the sharing of presents, we are also given the gift of enjoying delicious food! More than 82% of Titans would agree that they certainly look forward to eating delicious food during the Christmas holidays. During the times we go out for a meal to celebrate, or even the times when we are feasting on our home-cooked Noche Buenas. I’m sure we all indulge in these delectable meals!
Some Titans reported that they arrange outreach initiatives for local communities, go Christmas caroling, have a cook-off competition, travel with friends and family, celebrate the birth of Christ, and eat out on December 24th. Apart from school and work, we can observe how Enderun Titans cherish their personal time with the people they love.
It is clear to see that Christmas has its significance to every Titan. There may be uniqueness and differences between all of our traditions and experiences, but we can all agree that this period is one of the most lively, constructive, and vibrant parts of the year.
With the year coming to an end and vaccines rolling in, the Christmas spirit is slowly revitalizing. Titans know how to spend their occasions no matter the circumstances. Whether it be spending your holiday season by yourself or with others, one thing that will forever unite us together is the love that spreads during Christmas.
