Enderun welcomes U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim
Enderun Colleges happily welcomed U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim to its McKinley Hill Taguig campus on November 6, 2019. Ambassador Kim visited Enderun and talked about the U.S.-Philippine relations and the advances and achievements of the two countries’ relations during his tenure as Ambassador to the Philippines, including the Embassy’s important milestones in helping improve the quality of education in the country and the future opportunities they can offer to aspiring students.
On November 3, 2016, Ambassador Sung Kim was sworn in as the U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of the Philippines. He was nominated by President Barack Obama on May 19, 2016 and confirmed by the United States Senate on September 28, 2016. Previously, Ambassador Kim served as Special Representative for North Korea Policy and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Korea and Japan. From November 2011 until October 2014, he was the U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Korea.
“My assignment in the Philippines, I believe, has been the most rewarding and the most special for me. I am very proud of what the Embassy has achieved in the past three years. I’m constantly impressed by the beauty of this place, its resilience, the warmth of the Filipino people and most importantly, the relationship between our two countries, the U.S. and the Philippines. The Philippines is the U.S.’ oldest treaty ally in the whole Asia Pacific region. For decades, our friendship has enabled us to tackle challenges head on while continuing to build a stronger relationship guided by mutual interests and shared sacrifice. I believe Enderun Colleges is part of the success story of the U.S. and the Philippines. I learned that Enderun has sent over 500 students to internships in the U.S. and even now, there are still a lot who are there to study and learn and we want to continue to promote such exchanges. I think these initiatives and programs help build the foundation of our relationship and in many ways, Enderun Colleges reflects the enormous potential and opportunities that I have observed in the Philippines in the past three years,” Ambassador Kim shared.
Enderun Colleges President Dr. Edgardo Rodriguez also added that, “We are very happy and honored to welcome U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim to Enderun Colleges. He has imparted a lot of insights and reflections about the Philippines, its people and the many future opportunities the future holds for Enderun students with the help of the U.S. Embassy. We greatly appreciate his visit wherein he was also able to talk about his journey on how he became an accomplished U.S. Ambassador.”
Also in attendance during the event were Enderun Colleges Co-founder and Senior Vice President Danny Perez, Enderun Colleges Culinary Head Chef Cheong Yan See, college and senior high school students and officers from the U.S. Embassy.
