VESTIGES
“Why did I have to learn all of that?” This is something that most, if not all, students find themselves pondering aloud whenever we encounter lessons and lectures that don’t seem to hold anything worth remembering. Sometimes, we tend to think that what we learn today, we won’t need tomorrow. However, today’s conferral proves to us just how wrong we are. In today’s program, we are welcomed by Miss Cherry Tan who shares with us just how important those PowerPoints we learned from are. From the oratory skills we develop in Oral Communication to the development of creativity from Contemporary Arts, she proves that each subject we have taken holds its own significance.
The program is followed by notable speeches from the students who express their dismay when the pandemic took away the rest of their mundane high school life and how they overcame it despite their tribulations. Such as but not limited to, the excellence awardees who performed exceptionally well in subjects of their interests. They also awarded the traditional special awards, the Leadership and Titan Award, to those who exemplified what it truly means to be a Titan. This is followed by commending the students whose hard work reaped fruit and helped them bag an Honors award; and finally, to all those who managed to persevere amidst the hardships the past academic year. May they forever have the Titan Spirit alive with them.
In the final part of the program, Valedictorian of Class of 2021, Kyla Evangelista, induces us with her charismatic yet relevant speech that teaches us the most important lesson of this program. While Miss Cherry does prove a point by sharing the importance of learning by the book, Kyla reminds us that what they have learned here in Enderun transcends just book smarts. Kyla teaches us how basic education does not only entitle students to diplomas and report cards. It is also where we hone our practical skills for the future, get our own fair share of all-nighters that lead to unhealthy caffeine doses in the morning, and develop bonds that last forever. Their time here in Enderun exemplified how resilient the Titan Spirit truly is as they have triumphed against a significantly hard obstacle the world has faced yet.
It seems that only a few days ago, the whole world was abruptly and forcibly thrust into a whole new setup. Before we knew it, a year had passed and we are now once again bidding our farewells to another batch of Senior High School students. On July 24, 2021, we officially conclude a chapter of this year’s class of Seniors and wish them luck as they partake in a new journey. Let us applaud the students of Batch Dakila as they finally flip their tassels to the left.
