Enderun Alumni in the Professional World

Most established institutions probably have a mission and vision that they work towards. This is integral because it gives everyone a goal, something to keep in mind in order to make sure everything is on track. Yet how many of us are familiar with our own school’s mission and vision? As a matter of fact, we pass by this every day. Once you enter Enderun’s illustrious gates, you will find the mission and vision posted up right smack on one side – in giant print – for everyone to see.

“Enderun aims to graduate students with the academic training, professional competencies, and character required for success in today’s complex world, by offering international-caliber degree programs that combine management theory and practical experience in a values-rich learning environment.”

It really is quite a mouthful. It’s no wonder that it is not well-known to everyone, much less something that is memorized by heart. At the same time – once read – it doesn’t seem like a foreign idea at all. Without us even being aware of it, every day we spend as Enderun students brings us closer to becoming these ideal graduates; ones with the ‘academic training, professional competencies, and character required for success in today’s complex world’.

There is no doubt that once we step out of our alma mater’s values-rich learning environment, we are given everything we need to take over our respective industries. To illustrate this point, Ink has taken the liberty to profile a few alumni who have taken the first few steps towards making a name for  themselves.

KIMBERLIN ESBER

A BSBA student majoring in Finance and Wealth Management who just graduated this 2013 started out her career with a 71⁄2-month internship at JPMC as an Operational Project Management Intern of Technology for Social Good. Having discovered the internship at JPMC on her own, Esber does not forget to give credit to her student adviser Mr. Rocky Laurel about whom she says, “[is] great and well, he rocks!”

Esber is currently working at JP Morgan Chase & Co. as a Business Manager in the Corporate and Investment Banking. During her first two months of work, she underwent the process of discovering her job description by sitting down with each of the significant managers in the company. “Aside from process management, I also do project management”, she says “I have to make sure that the projects’ milestones are being done on time.”

FAUSTIN ALVIAR

Graduated with a degree in BSIHM with specialization in Culinary Arts last April 2013. After graduation, he took some time off to discover the road he wanted to take for his career path. Currently he is back in Enderun, not for further studies, but as a formally trained life coach. He is still undergoing his certification to complete his training under The International Coach Federation (ICF) and will be fully certified by next year. In a gist, a life coach is one who inspires his clients to maximize their personal and professional potential in a thought-provoking and creative process.

When asked about when made him head toward this direction instead of pursuing the industry related to his degree, he says, “[that] the thought of being a life coach never came about till the first 2 months after my graduation. I was an avid backpacker for the first half of my pre-professional career; think about it as an adventurous release before I become fully devoted to a life in the kitchen. Although my original intention for my adventures was a way to focus my mind on my career, ironically everything backfired on me. I had never been so confused about my culinary career. There was just an empty feeling for my whenever I ponder on the possibilities if it in the long run, there was a recurring sensation of being trapped in a box if I push on with the path I’m heading to…We have a huge market in need and we have yet to tap that with the limited number of coaches around.” Faustin hopes to someday see the gradual effects that he has in creating a positive different in people’s lives. “I am for whatever challenge or opportunity, success or failure I face, would always look back on why I want to do this. That’s how I will keep moving forward.”
