A True Enderun Wedding
Every fairytale usually ends in a happily ever after; and in this case, happily ever after was just the beginning for Penny Pedersen and Ej Ponio.
Both hospitality (BS IHM-HA) students at Enderun, Ej’s first encounter with Penny was in the summer of 2009, which occurred in quite an unconventional way. Each driving on their way to school, Ej, quite a drive and car enthusiast, cut through Penny on the road, right at the corner of Campus Avenue. Little did he know that he cut off a girl, a girl who was actually a schoolmate, and a schoolmate who would end up being the love of his life.
From the car-cutting episode, the two began to notice each other more, and thus blossomed their relationship. Ej recalls that he would constantly give himself a reason to talk to Penny, by helping her solve puzzles or playing Text Twist (an online word game). He even got to a point where he would make a fuss over a finger wound, which Penny would offer to clean up and bandage, being the caring woman that she is.
After being together for about two and a half years, Ej popped the question to Penny, who said yes. Ej has always been so grateful, beyond words, for having Penny in his life, because she is always there for him. What made their relationship so special was the foundation of friendship that their love was built on. Sometimes when you feel it’s right, it usually is. And that’s what they have taught us. Not only is it possible to find love in unexpected places, but the importance of having a partner who supports you and is the best for you. At the wedding reception, Ej’s sister recalls during speech, “…there was obviously a reason why you both ended up in Enderun. There is always a reason why God has given you this path and led you to this specific point.”
On the afternoon of May 14, 2013, Penny and Ej marked the beginning of their lives together with the exchange of vows at Santurio de San Antonio Parish at Forbes. The reception immediately followed in The Tent at Enderun. It was an occasion that all boiled down to family. There were plenty of tears and sentimental moments, and of course laughter. It was a celebration of the start of their lives together, and an indication of things to come. Perhaps we’ll be seeing our first Enderun baby soon as well. Only time will tell.
