Article by Alexandra Mañalac
The Tutorial and Language Center of Enderun Colleges (TLC) is once again holding its ESL Winter Camp for students from their partner Korean colleges and universities which include Dongguk University, Yeung Nam College of Science and Technology, Kumoh Institute of Technology, Se Myung University, and Kyung Nam College University of Information and Technology. This program is ongoing from January 7 to April 2014.
One hundred and nine (109) students from these seven different universities typically attend the Winter Camp for two to seven weeks. The main objective of the program is to help students develop their capability to use English in practical setups. A popular component of the program is “Chatterbox” which involves facilitated sessions where small groups talk about a standard range of topics that mimic typical conversations, functional English, and public speaking. The Winter Camp program primarily aims to help participants learn and practice communicating in English, but in the long run, also aims to help participants seek and pursue job opportunities. Besides the English programs, currently, there are also students participating in shadowing program at Raffles Hotel in Makati City. Culinary students are also offered supplementary classes in the Enderun Colleges kitchen
The TLC, headed by Mrs. Loida Flojo, has been holding Summer and Winter Camps since 2008. The center first started with forty (40) students and increased since then, year on year. These camps include courses designed for groups who want to study English and are just visiting for a short period of time. Students from participating schools are also helped with regards to course content, supplementary activities, and board and lodging. TLC also offers various ESL/EFL courses, TOEIC/TOEFL/IELTS/SAT review, and Academic Tutorials for all academic levels (pre-school to college).
