A Week in Their Shoes: Enderun Student Ambassador Edition
Meet Eunkyu Chun.
Or much better known by his English name, Nick. He is a sophomore currently studying Hotel Administration. He is also a proud Enderun scholar, member of the Enderun Leadership Program, Lux Lucis Korean Communication Batch Representative, IHM Special Projects Team member, as well as one of the Enderun Student Ambassadors. Safe to say, he keeps himself quite busy with his academics and extracurricular activities. But what really is it like to be an Enderun Student Ambassador? And how does this job flow with all of the other responsibilities Nick has as well? Find out as we followed Nick as he shows us a typical week in his life and all the things in between.
To start the week, he begins with a good home-cooked breakfast to get ready for the week. After his breakfast, Nick attends his classes. Like every student, a big chunk of Nick’s week is dedicated to his classes, which he attends regularly and always makes sure to set aside enough time to complete all his assignments as well as prepare for any presentations. This week, he did a presentation for his Sustainable Tourism class.
As for his scholarship work department, Nick works for The IHM Special Projects Team under Ms. Bel Castro. With his team members, they make events to engage the IHM Community and also publish a weekly email called the IHM Digest. For this week particularly, he was the editor for that week’s edition of the digest. He presided over the editorial meeting at the beginning of the week to discuss what will be featured.
As for the middle of the week, depending on his routine, aside from his classes Nick will attend meetings with his fellow Ambassadors either in preparation for an upcoming event or to discuss future plans. For this week, he met with fellow ambassadors Kiara and Jasmine.
He will also work on IHM Special Projects Team’s tasks, depending on what the team is currently working on. This week featured him going to the demo session for IHM’s Virtual Game Party and shooting an episode of Culture is Everything on INK Enderun’s podcast, Hey There Titans.
Aside from the school and work responsibilities, Nick also likes to take his dog for a walk. Not only for some time away from his desk but also to get some fresh air. He also mentioned that he feeds abandoned cats he sees along the street while he takes his dog for a walk. He also likes to cook during his free time not only for fun but to maintain a balanced diet.
Towards the end of the week, Nick attended another editorial meeting for the IHM Digest where they finalized details and also discussed things for next week’s event. Aside from that and some classes, Nick likes to wind down at the end of the school week by catching up with some of his friends.
For most students, Saturday means the week is winding down. But for Nick, Saturdays often mean the beginning of a busy work day with an Admission’s event later. Aside from batch exams, the Enderun Ambassadors regularly hold game nights where Nick often participates and gets dressed up based on the theme of the night. But before all the fun, they meet earlier for dry runs and rehearsals.
But after the event, he also attends the debriefing to discuss what happened and other important matters. And that is the end of his busy Saturday.
Now that the major work is done, Nick then uses the last day of the week to relax and maybe bake something. After his regularly hectic days, having a whole day to unwind and not attend to work requirements is an essential, because he knows once Monday rolls around again, it’s time to go back to work.
When asked about why he chose to join so many organizations within Enderun, Nick stated that before the pandemic, he was not that active in extracurricular activities. But being stuck at home during the lockdown made him want to reach out to find ways not only to fill time but to seize the opportunities he was seeing. He shared that this quote by Robert Elias , “If you can’t fight and you can’t flee, flow” inspires him because that is what he did. He made the most of an unfavorable situation and decided that sitting around doing nothing was not enough.
Lastly, when asked about why he chose to juggle all of these responsibilities, he stated that he wants to learn and grow as much as possible and knows that while the tasks can get taxing and demanding at times, it is all part of the process. He also shared his own personal quote saying that, “You can be what you want, you can get what you want, but the question is, ‘How bad do you want it?’”.
It is also worth mentioning that even with all of the stress and hard work that comes with his roles comes a lot of fun too. Nick has mentioned that he has been able to form not only amazing friendships but long lasting memories with his fellow Ambassadors, Lux Lucis officers, and IHM Special Projects Team members.
Overall, this week with Nick has been a rollercoaster of events and really shows the dedication and commitment many Titans have not only to their studies but to the organizations they work in. Another thing to be taken away from his week is that even with all the work and school he needs to balance, Nick knows to practice self-care and relaxation when necessary because that is vital to maintaining a productive workflow and good mental health.
