Locked in Lights: Titans Capturing the World of Photography Part 2
From the first part’s exploration of perspectives and preferences, here we get to see photography as a side-profession. To satisfy more in captivation through lenses, this is the continuation of our creative series featuring our Titans in the world of Photography.
CORINE LEE
Next up is a sophomore coming from the College of Interior Designing, Corine Lee! She isn’t certain how she started loving photography but she’s sure that her parents influenced her. She’s astonished at how photography looks better and prettier than what we see in reality. Corine’s thought process behind her photography depends on whether it’s for business or personal purposes. For business, she usually browses for inspiration then later develops a theme and concept for the brand. On the other hand, personal projects are carefree and lean more toward uniqueness. She aims to take photos in a fun and unique way. “Super Relevant” is what she perceives as the essence of photography in these times. As she recently won 2nd place in Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) photo contest, Corine believes in “screenshotting a moment in life,” and she elaborates how photos give people hope in this stuck-at-home setup, particularly the hope in reminiscing moments that are captured in photos. Escape for a moment with Corine’s personal favorite and PATA entry.
JUSTIN TAYAG
Lastly, we have a senior CA and a digital creator, Justin Tayag! Justin’s story of his start in photography is quite unique. He was once given the choice between a bike or a camera as a gift. Because he likes challenges, he chose the unfamiliar–the camera. Later on, a friend of his was struggling with confidence and Justin thought of a photoshoot to help the friend see himself in a new light. This is where he found his purpose—making people happy. Much like Corine, Justin’s standards for taking photos differ for personal and for business shoots. For personal, he champions the story behind pictures while for business, he wants the best. He also mentioned that proper lighting is important and the mood in the shoot like how awkward or comfortable the subject is.
Moreover, he also applies various studio techniques and editing methods. On social media trends, Justin discussed how videography has become the preferred visual medium while photography stays the second option. On the other hand, enterprises would still prefer to use still references and this is the reason why photography won’t die anytime soon. In his startup, he noticed how Gen Z’s preferences when it comes to photoshoots are more on neon light and light painting style. This is why he thinks it is relevant to adapt to generational changes but still own his style. Immerse in awe with Justin’s personal favorite shot.
Photography plays a significant role in our lives as it captures moments we want to cherish forever. There are people who master the craft, and some make it their side hustles. May we always support the photographers we know as they lock moments in light especially, our Titans: Ace, Blue, Corine, and Justin.
For there’s so much story one photo holds.
