Men’s Titans Places Second in MNCAA Basketball Championship
16 February 2014 – The Enderun Titans Men’s Basketball team succumbs to Centro Escolar University, placing 2nd in the Men’s National Collegiate Athletic Association (MNCAA) Men’s Basketball Championships held last Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
A valiant effort from the Men’s Basketball Titans led them straight to the championships, besting 5 other colleges to face the defending champions from CEU. The Titans started out strong with team captain Jordan Rios scoring an early lead, but with CEU answering back with 3-pointers and turnover goals ending with a final score of 55-75. Rios was also awarded in the Mythical 5 as ‘Best Shooting Guard.’
This is Enderun’s first appearance in a championship match. Even though they did not win, Coach Topex Robinson sees it as a valuable wake-up call for the team of how competitive the other participating colleges are. “We just want to learn from that loss, we lost to a better experienced team, it’s just a motivation for us to work harder.”
The Titans is relatively a young group. With Enderun having just a small population, the search for talented players has always been a recurring challenge. “We want to beef-up our line-up. We are planning on recruiting more players also,” added Coach Topex. For the past three tournaments, this is the best finish for the team. With the addition of better training facilities with the opening of the new FIBA regulation basketball court in Enderun’s Titans Hall, the apparent improvement in the team performance adds to the motivation for team management to pursue recruitment efforts.
