Enderun holds timely mock senatorial elections and forum
Enderun Colleges’ Office of the President, together with the Economics Department, the Senior High School Division, the Enderun Social Orientation & Community Development, and the Enderun League for Economic Development (LED) recently conducted mock senatorial elections and a forum from May 6 to 8, 2019 at the New Library inside the campus. Entitled GG, Pinas: Why 2019 Elections Matter, the forum focused on the importance of the upcoming national and local Philippine elections.
Open to all eligible Enderun students, the initiative was aimed towards encouraging them to responsibly and proactively participate in the Philippine Elections 2019. Through the poll, the organizers hoped to inspire the rest of the voting population to be critical and vigilant in order to create positive changes and empower them to choose based on each candidate’s platform rather than personality or popularity.
With 120 Enderun student participants, the mock poll and forum became a success as it gave significant information on the current list of national candidates. Also in attendance during the event were Enderun Colleges President Dr. Edgardo Rodriguez, Enderun faculty Gabriel Ma. J. Lopez, PhD EnP who talked about the significance of person-centered policies, Enderun Colleges Social Orientation and Community Development Manager Krit Gahuman who explained facts about the midyear 2019 elections and the importance of the youth in elections, Mental Health Advocate and Spoken Word Artist Danielle Nakpil who wrote spoken word poetry entitled “Puro Pangako” which talked about electing caring servant leaders and Law student Michiko Lopez who discussed the Legislative Agenda at stake in the 18th Congress.
“I have been with several government officials, but that doesn’t influence my list of candidates. Always on top of my criteria is Cura personalisor, care for person,” said Dr. Gabby Lopez on objectively screening political candidates. Enderun Colleges President Dr. Edgardo Rodriguez added. that, “This is the time for the Enderun community to champion empathy and not apathy for the state of the nation and our countrymen.”
