The Ouverture Carnival: A Festive Way to Kick-Off the School Year
Freshman, Bea Gonzales contributes to INK Online by sharing her experience and insights on Cultura’s Ouverture event.
An event filled with fun games, entertaining performances, and interesting encounters with other students, Cultura’s annual kick-off party, Ouverture, held last July 25 at the BA building was a great kick-start to the upcoming RSO (registered student organizations) events of the school year.
From the creative decorations to the many colorful booth set-ups, it was apparent how much time and effort the members of Cultura invested in planning this event. Vibrant streamers and balloons helped transform what was typically a place for academics, into a carnival-esque wonderland.
Moreover, jaw-dropping and lively performances given by student organizations such as Soundcast and Music in Motion kept everyone entertained through their showcases of undeniable talent from the freshmen and upperclassmen. Students couldn’t help but sing along as Soundcast members belted out popular tunes such as Imagine Dragons’ “Demons” and Katy Perry’s “Roar.” It was truly an enjoyable experience for music lovers and pop aficionados.
Apart from the performances, various games and booths such as Battle shots, the jail booth, and even a fortune telling booth, kept the night interesting. The “Suck and Blow” game in particular was a crowd favorite that elicited a mix of laughter and cheers from the onlookers and participants themselves. It was a great way to keep partygoers entertained. Let’s not forget to mention the sumptuous sliders and scrumptious cupcakes provided by other RSOs, Culinaire and EPA (Enderun Patisserie Association).
The Ouverture Carnival was definitely a fun and festive way to kick off school year 2014 – 2015. Congratulations to the members of Cultura for arranging such a wonderful event!
